Girl Gone Wild

Lyrics

Oh my God
I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee
And I detest all my sins
Because I dread the loss of heaven
And the pain of hell
But most of all because I love Thee
And I want so badly to be good

It's so hypnotic
The way he pulls on me
It's like the force of gravity
Right up under my feet

It's so erotic
This feeling can't be beat
It's coursing through my whole body
Feel the heat

I got that burning hot desire
And no one can put out my fire
It's coming right down through the wire

Here it comes
When I hear them 808 drums
It's got me singin'

Hey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like hey-ey-e
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like a smokin' gun
On the floor till the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

The room is spinnin'
It must be the tanqueray
I'm about to go astray
My inhibition's gone away

I feel like sinnin'
You got me in the zone
DJ play my favourite song
Turn me on

I got that burning hot desire
And no one can put out my fire
It's coming right down through the wire

Here it comes
When I hear them 808 drums
It's got me singin'

Hey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like hey-ey-e
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like a smokin' gun
On the floor till the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

I know, I know, I know, I shouldn't act this way
I know, I know, I know, good girls don't misbehave, misbehave
But I'm a bad girl anyway
Forgive me

Hey-ey-ey, hey-ey-ey-ey
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like hey-ey-e
Like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Girls they just wanna have some fun
Get fired up like a smokin' gun
On the floor till the daylight comes
Girls they just wanna have some fun

I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild
I'm like a girl gone wild
A good girl gone wild

Album

Single

Girl Gone Wild, the single For the first time ever, Madonna released a second single before releasing the album. The song premiered via a lyric video on February 27. The single was released on iTunes and Amazon on March 2, 2012. Although the fantastic video sparked some controversy, the single didn't get any additional promo nor much airplay, which is why it failed to chart in many countries. In the Billboard Hot 100 it bubbled under at #106, while peaking at only #73 in the UK. The only top-10 positions were in Italy (#4), Hungary (#4) and Spain (#7). Continuing her reign in the dance charts, it did however top the Billboard Hot Dance list. Remixes were commissioned to Avicii, Dave Audé, Justin Cognito, Kim Fai, Lucky Date, Offer Nissim, Dada Life and Rebirth. Read here how the song came about.

Video

Girl Gone Wild, the video After doing the album photoshoot together, Madonna convinced fashion photographers Mert & Marcus to direct the video for Girl Gone Wild. The magnificent result was an artistic yet raunchy music video in black & white, which pays hommage to a range of classic Madonna videos, including Vogue, Justify My Love, Erotica and Cherish. A reincarnation of her Dita dominatrix persona grinds with semi-nude male models Sean O'Pry, Jon Kortajarena and Simon Nessman, then dances with Kazaky, a Ukranian dance group, all dressed in 'mantyhose' and high heels. Some scenes include direct references to S&M, with Madonna's silhouette in chains or in an orgy scene with all the sexy men. While her sexiness is focused upon, the many sexually intense scenes with the men give the video a highly homoerotic character. No surprise that Youtube deemed the video 'inappropriate for certain age groups', 22 years after MTV did the same for Justify My Love.

Madonna's moves were choreographed by Tabitha D'Umo, who also did the choreography for the Super Bowl halftime show performance. Arianne Phillips designed the outfits for Madonna's 3 personas in the video: the 'super vixen', the 'rock star' and the 'Platinum/Iconic Madonna', the latter being inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Early March 2012, a teaser video was released, with the full (but censored) version premiering on E! Online on March 21. The uncensored version was put on Madonna's Youtube channel a day after.

Tour

Girl Gone Wild @ MDNA Tour Girl Gone Wild served as the stunning opener for the MDNA Tour, combining Madonna's favourite themes of controversy, religion and sex. It starts off with a seemingly marital ceremony in a medieval cathedral setting, with monks lightning incense in a big thurible and ringing a sinister bell that shakes the arena. The Kalakan trio chants Psalm 91 from the Bible combined with the Basque traditional 'Gabriel's Message', equating God with the man who takes the bride as his wife, as well as the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary.

Madonna herself appears as an armed, black-veiled bride in a suspended confessional, during the act of contrition intro of the track, representing the woman as the original sinner who has to be confined within the institution of marriage. As Madonna breaks through the glass, a highly choreographed performance follows and the gender-bending theme of the video is repeated with six masculine dancers doing feminine moves in high heels. During the epic breakdown, samples of Material Girl & Give It 2 Me are intertwined with the song, hinting at more values and actions by women that are detested by society. The energetic performance flows into the violent Revolver.
