Madonna will be releasing a new studio album in 2019. We have collected the things we know so far.
This will be Madonna's 14th studio album, as a follow-up for her 2015 Rebel Heart album.
While an official release date is not yet announced, it is likely to come out in the summer of 2019, possibly June.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in September 2017, Madonna said:
"I've been listening to a lot of music here, like fado, which is the music of Portugal. There's a great jazz scene here. So right now I'm listening to a lot of local artists I've never heard of before, and that's been really inspiring."
Madonna also uses the hashtags #morna, a music and dance genre from Cape Verde, and #funana, an upbeat music and dance genre, also from Cape Verde, which uses a lot of accordeon.
In January 2018, Madonna announced that she was in the studio recording new music and introduced us to the first collaborators: songwriter Starrah (who previously cowrote hits such as Katy Perry's "Swish Swish", Nicki Minaj's "No Frauds", and Camila Cabello's "Havana") and producer Billboard (who produced Madonna's gorgeous single Ghosttown).
When manager Guy Oseary posts about the 20th anniversary of Ray Of Light in February 2018, Madonna comments:
"Can you help me now please!! Remember when i [sic] made records with other artists from beginning to end and I was allowed to be a visionary and not have to go to songwriting camps where no one can sit still for more than 15 minutes."
It's unclear what the effect is on her recording process, but in the months to follow it seems she sticks mostly to Mirwais (who previously produced the Music and American Life albums) and Mike Dean (who worked on several Rebel Heart songs) to produce her new album.
Madonna premiered a few lines of the new song Beautiful Game when performing at the 2018 Met Gala.
