This song was leaked online in August 2007, but then got reworked by Madonna & Pharrell in October 2007, completely changing the sound and most of lyrics and adding a rap by hip hop superstar Kanye West for the album Hard Candy. Read the lyrics of the leaked demo version.

Tour

After opening her Sticky & Sweet show with the delicious Candy Shop, Madonna does not waste time and puts the show in higher gear with the uptempo Beat Goes On. In true ghetto pimp style, Madonna rolls in a 1920s Rolls Royce with an M-Dolla license plate onto the catwalk. While Hypnosis drives the car, Madonna puts on a top hat and gets rid of her corset, revealing her see-through outfit. Meanwhile, Pharrell & Kanye share the big screen to do their parts. Pharrell joined the ride during a surprise appearance on the 3rd show in NYC.

Beat Goes On was also used as a video interlude preceding the Futuristic Rave segment of the show. This time it was a remixed version, combined with parts of other Hard Candy songs, most prominently the 'get stupid' line from Give It 2 Me, which is how the video got dubbed by fans. The politically charged video caused great controversy for comparing terrorists and dictators like Hitler, Mao and Mussolini to US Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Later in the video, images of world leaders and heroes Martin Luther King, John Lennon, Bono and the Dalai Lama also include the Democratic candidate Barack Obama, who would later become the 44th US president.
