Angel
Lyrics
Why am I standing on a cloud
Everytime you're around
And my sadness disappears
Everytime you are near
You must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes
Full of wonder and surprise
And just now I realize
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise
I can see it in your eyes
Walking down a crowded avenue
Other faces seem like nothing next to you
And I can't hear the traffic rushing by
Just the pounding of my heart and that's why
You must be an angel
I can see it in your eyes
Full of wonder and surprise
And just now I realize
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise
I can see it in your eyes
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise
I can see it in your eyes
You're an angel
You're an angel baby
You're an angel
You must be an angel
Now I believe that dreams come true
'Cuz you came when I wished for you
This just can't be coincidence
The only way that this makes sense is that
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise
I can see it in your eyes
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
Oooh you're an angel
In disguise
I can see it in your eyes
You're an angel
You're an angel baby
You're an angel
You must be an angel baby
Clouds just disappear

Album
Single
The third single of the Like A Virgin album is often forgotten. Angel was released in the US on April 10, 1985, as a 12" single with Into The Groove, the popular single from Desperately Seeking Susan, which overshadowed Angel. Still, it made it to #5 in the Billboard Hot 100 and to #1 in the dance chart. In July 1985, Angel and Into The Groove were together certified Gold for shipping more than 1 million copies in the US.
In Australia, Angel with Into The Groove as its B-single became her second #1. In Europe Into The Groove was released separately, and Angel reached #5 in the UK on its own in September 1985. In Japan it climbed up to #3.
Video
Although a video was planned for this single, it got cancelled. Instead they used a promotional video compiled of images from previous singles Burning Up, Borderline, Lucky Star, Like A Virgin and Material Girl.
Tour
This song was only performed once on the Virgin Tour.
