Masterpiece
Lyrics
If you were the Mona Lisa
You'd be hanging in the Louvre
Everyone would come to see you
You'd be impossible to move
It seems to me that's what you are
A rare and priceless work of art
You stay behind your velvet rope
But I will not renounce all hope
And I'm right by your side
Like a thief in the night
I stand in front of the masterpiece
And I can't tell you why
It hurts so much
To be in love with a masterpiece
'Cause after all
Nothing's indestructible
From the moment I first saw you
All the darkness turned to white
An Impressionistic painting
Tiny particles of light
It seem to me that's what you're like
The "look but please don't touch me" type
And honestly it can't be fun
To always be the Chosen one
And I'm right by your side
Like a thief in the night
I stand in front of a masterpiece
And I can't tell you why
It hurts so much
To be in love with a masterpiece
'Cause after all
Nothing's indestructible
Nothing's indestructible
Nothing's indestructible
Nothing's indestructible
And I'm right by your side
Like a thief in the night
I stand in front of a masterpiece
And I can't tell you why
It hurts so much
To be in love with a masterpiece
And I'm right by your side
Like a thief in the night
I stand in front of a masterpiece
And I can't tell you why
It hurts so much
To be in love with a masterpiece
'Cause after all
Nothing's indestructible
'Cause after all
Nothing's indestructible

Song
This ballad was written for the end credits of the movie W.E. It leaked online early December 2011. The song features both on MDNA and the soundtrack album of W.E. In January 2012, the song was awarded for 'Best Original Song' at the Golden Globes. It wasn't released as an official single, but it received a radio release on UK radio on April 2, 2012 and briefly charted there at #25 in the airplay chart.
Tour
Madonna ended her MDNA Tour speech with some words about love, giving her the perfect bridge to this sweet love song. Her dancers sit around, watching her sing this lovely ballad, as if she were singing at the camp fire. Madonna's flanked by Monte on guitar and Jason Yang on violin, while the Kalakan trio performs the backing vocals. Scenes from W.E in the background beautifully illustrate the lyrics. As the musicians and dancers leave the stage in pairs, Madonna is left alone to sing the final lines.
